Trust in the legacy media outlets has disintegrated in the Trump Era with the rise in collective “Fake News” awareness. This, along with improved independent video publishing and streaming technology, has led to an explosion in new, “alt” media personalities, some clustered into media groups, others fully independent. As the mainstream media continually consolidates into the hands of fewer and fewer kingpins, alt media channels are blossoming and multiplying at a geometric rate. This is a landscape of constantly shifting sands, mergers, feuds, alliances, bannings and exiles.
The Alt Media Landscape Survey from D.S.M.P. is a snapshot of the news broadcasting industry in its entirety, from the mainstream to the furthest lunatic fringe. It builds on a decade of research to break through audience silo algorithms and echo chambers, to cross pollinate demographics and allow researchers to attain the most informed perspective possible.
It also serves as a leaderboard by listing channels and podcasts in the order of their audience size (at the time of publishing.) Bigger is not always better in this regard! Too often, the small fish speaks its truth, while the big fishes tow the line of the establishment.
